Bollywood icon Dharmendra passed away yesterday at the age of 89 at his residence in Mumbai, prompting an outpouring of grief across the film industry. Amidst the many tributes, one of the most heartfelt came from Shah Rukh Khan, who described the veteran actor as “nothing short of a father figure” to him.
Shah Rukh Khan calls Dharmendra’s death an ‘irreplaceable loss’ in emotional farewell
In his post, Shah Rukh shared an unpublished photo of Dharmendra gently touching his face and wrote: “Rest in Peace Dharam ji. You were nothing short of a father figure to me… thank you for showering me with blessings and love the way you did. An inconsolable and irreplaceable loss to not just his family, but to cinema and film lovers world over. You are immortal… and your soul will live through your films and your beautiful family forever. Love you always.”
Dharmendra had been recovering from a serious health scare earlier in the month and was taken home for rest and care. His demise has left his family, peers and fans grappling with a profound loss. The cremation took place in the presence of several major stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan himself.
Shah Rukh and Dharmendra had previously collaborated in the film Om Shanti Om, where Dharmendra made a memorable cameo during the ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ song. Many other celebrities from Karan Johar to Alia Bhatt also took to social media to express their shock and sorrow.
With Dharmendra’s departure, the film industry has lost a legend whose presence and work transcended generations. As Shah Rukh so aptly put it, his soul will endure through his films and family truly immortal.
