Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files has achieved another milestone in its journey. The film, which released in theatres on September 5, 2025, has been officially selected for the Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Known for its bold storytelling, The Bengal Files explores the historical events surrounding Direct Action Day (August 16, 1946), drawing a powerful connection between the past and the present. The film sparked nationwide conversations for its hard-hitting portrayal of a sensitive chapter in Indian history. Despite facing an initial ban in West Bengal, it eventually released in the state, symbolizing the strength of artistic expression and perseverance.
Reacting to the selection, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri shared, “The Bengal Files being selected for Indian Panorama is not just an honour — it’s a reminder that truth still has a place in Indian cinema. This film was made from pain, not politics; from silence, not noise. I dedicate this recognition to every artist who dares to tell stories that make the powerful uncomfortable and the voiceless visible.”
The Bengal Files is written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi, and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. The film is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha Productions. It is also part of Agnihotri’s acclaimed Files Trilogy, which includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files.
The selection at IFFI marks a significant recognition for The Bengal Files, reinforcing its place as one of the most talked-about and thought-provoking films of the year.
