By the late 2000s, the ‘three Khans’ of Bollywood, Shah Rukh, Aamir, and Salman, had already established their supremacy in Bollywood. But, along with their stardom, audiences got to witness an unusual rift between SRK and Aamir. Known for their different personalities and choice of films, the two actors used to frequently take indirect jabs at each other through interviews, award show appearances and public statements. Although their bond has mended in the last few years, Aamir recently opened up about that phase of tension between him and SRK and shared how things eventually changed for the better.
Aamir Khan recalls the phase when Shah Rukh was unhappy with him
Aamir Khan recently sat down for an interview with The Lallantop and spoke about his bond with Shah Rukh, which wasn’t smooth years ago. The Lagaan actor reaffirmed his old and popular revelation that he had a dog named ‘Shah Rukh.’ However, he also explained the reason behind his statement and explained that not just him but even Shah Rukh used to make jokes at his expense while hosting award shows, which he had stopped attending decades ago. Sharing SRK’s habit, he said:
“Shah Rukh aksar mujhpe mazak karta rehta hain naa har saal jab award function hota hai, main toh jaata nahi hun. Toh har saal mazak voh mujhpe karte rehte hain.”
When asked about why he and Shah Rukh called each other ‘chichora’ in interviews, Aamir admitted that there was a phase when the Jawan actor was unhappy with him. Although Aamir Khan isn’t sure about the reason, he feels that the reason for SRK’s unhappiness might have been the fact that Aamir doesn’t talk about others in his interviews. However, the Dangal actor explained that all of that doesn’t matter now since it is all in the past and said:
“Actually ek period tha jab Shah Rukh aur main ek dusre ke liye kaafi kuch bol rahe the. Shayad vo naa khush the mujhse. Because I don’t talk about others in my interviews. Anyway, let’s leave all that behind. Shah Rukh is a good friend of mine. When our careers started, there was natural competition between us. But that faded away 10–15 years ago, at least from my side, and I think from his side as well. It was childish behaviour.”
When Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan called each other ‘chichora‘ during their film promotions
Any work of either of the three Khans easily makes the headlines and they are frequently asked questions about each other. One such case happened during the promotions of Aamir’s 3 Idiots and SRK’s My Name Is Khan, which was released within a gap of a few months. Aamir’s film was released in December 2009, and he travelled to different places for promotions. When Shah Rukh was asked about it, he stated that it was a kind of ‘chichorapan‘ (tacky). He added that he would never take that approach to promote his film. Later, in an interview with ABP, Aamir was asked for his reaction to it and the actor mentioned:
“Shah Rukh is a wise man. If I am going to different regions in our country and he thinks it’s Chichorapan, then what can I say? This is his thinking. Jaha tak baat hai chhichhorapan ki, toh woh (Shah Rukh) jyada jaante honge iss chiz ke baare mein kyuki woh khud kaafi chhichhorapan karte hai apni zindagi mein. Woh expert hai inn sab mein.”

Aamir Khan’s work front
On the work front, Aamir Khan is back on the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par after a hiatus after Laal Singh Chaddha‘s debacle. Directed by R.S Prasanna, the film also stars Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Satbir, Gopi Krishnan Varma and more. It has already collected more than Rs. 120 crore at the box office, and he is next producing Lahore 1947. As per some reports, Aamir might team up with Rajkumar Hirani to make a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke who is regarded as the ‘father of Indian cinema’.
