Usha Nadkarni Says Her Dad Hit Her For Joining Ganpati Festive At Lata Mangeshkar's Home 'Maar Ke..'

Usha Nadkarni, who has gained fame for her impressive screen presence on Indian Television and cinema, didn’t have an easy way into the entertainment world. Despite being passionate about drama and dance since childhood, the actress rose to fame later part of her life. The 78-year-old has worked in various Hindi and Marathi shows, and continues to wow the audiences with her intense roles. But Usha, who has proved that age is no bar in finding success in showbiz, recently recalled an interesting memory from her childhood when her father thrashed her for attending Ganapati celebration at Lata Mangeshkar’s home.

Usha Nadkarni reveals her parents were not fond of her passion for acting and dancing 

Usha Nadkarni recently sat down to have a conversation with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa on their podcast. During the conversation, the actress who rose to fame for playing ‘Savita Deshmukh’ in Pavitra Rishta shared that initially, her passion for acting was not liked and acknowledged by her family. She revealed that her mom used to dress her for school plays but didn’t like her doing dramas outside the school.

Usha shared that when she was a kid, popular singer, Lata Mangeshkar used to be their neighbour, and the latter used to organise huge Ganapati celebrations at home. Consequently, Usha and her friend used to join the celebrations and dance when they brought lord Ganpati with great pomp. At that time, her father used to find her, bring her home and thrash her. In her words:

“Bachpan mein Lata mangeskar, hum jaha rehte the Nana Chowk mein pehle, chooti 10 by 10 ki kholi thi humari, udhaar bhi 3 maale ki building lekin chote chote ghar. Lata Mangeshkar baaju mein rehti thi tabhi, Surel Byculla Kendra. Toh unke waha bade Ganpati hote the toh raaste mein program hote the, toh baacho ke saath mein jaati the, papa udhaar mein dhundke, maar ke ghaar laate the. Bohot pitayi ki hai papa ne, papa humare maarte the na, ek ko mara teen bhag gaye.”

Usha Nadkarni shares that her mother once threw her clothes out of the house for acting

In the same conversation, Usha Nadkarni shared that her mother was against her passion for acting and dance more than her father. She admitted that her mother’s perspective wasn’t wrong because she was thinking about her daughter’s marriage and how society might criticise her decades ago. Consequently, Usha revealed that one day, her mother threw her clothes out because Usha didn’t stop taking part in dramas. Recalling the same, the actress said:

“Ek din toh meri maa ne sab mere kapde utha ke ghar ke baahar phek diye, bola drama karna hai hamare ghar se nikal ja, toh main bhi gussa wali thi, maine sab kapde uthaye Grant Road mein rehte the east mein gayi, waha se bag khareed ke leke aaye, kapde bhare, meri saheli thi, mere saath municipality mein kaam karti thi, uske ghar gaye. Papa mujhe office mein dhundhne aaye.”

Usha Nadkarni’s career so far 

Usha Nadkarni debuted as an actress in the Marathi film, Sinhasan in 1979. She later gained her breakthrough in Bollywood with a supporting role in the 1987 film Pratighaat. The actress has been a part of films and TV shows like R… Rajkumar, Bhoothnath Returns, Ventilator, Pavitra Rishta, Bigg Boss Marathi 1 and more. Usha Nadkarni was last seen in Celebrity Masterchef.
