New Delhi: Lok Sabha MP Abdul Rashid aka Engineer Rashid on Tuesday demanded a “full investigation” into the recent death of two civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, citing media reports that they were “allegedly killed at the hands of the forces”.
In Tihar jail on terror funding charges, the Independent MP from Baramulla is out on parole and attended Parliament for the first time. He raised the issue of civilians’ death during Zero Hour.
“Hamara khoon sasta nahin hain (our blood is not cheap),” he said. “Humein jeene ka haq hai, humare khoon ki qadr karo, kuch laaj karo (Our lives are valuable, have some shame).”
“It is my request to our government that a complete investigation” should be conducted in the matter, he added.
Rashid won the Lok Sabha election from Baramulla after defeating former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.
The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief was granted custody parole by the Delhi High Court on Monday to attend Parliament on 11 and 13 February. Before reaching Parliament, he was taken to the RML Hospital in New Delhi for a routine health examination.
The Baramulla MP also sought a tunnel in Kupwara to connect some remote villages pointing out that they remain cut off from the rest of the region due to lack of transport.
Jailed in 2019 on terror-funding charges, Rashid was earlier given interim bail till 2 October 2024 to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls.
