Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday attacked the BJP over its MP Anantkumar Hegde’s comment about amending the Constitution, alleging that the ruling social gathering is in opposition to social justice and secularism enshrined within the Constitution.


Addressing a press convention on the social gathering headquarters right here, the Congress president mentioned the BJP goals to get an enormous mandate just for amending the Constitution.


Kharge’s assault got here after Hegde, at a gathering in Karwar in Karnataka on Saturday, had mentioned the BJP wanted a two-thirds majority in each Houses of Parliament to amend the Constitution and “set right the distortions and unnecessary additions made to it by the Congress”.

Kharge mentioned, “I have to say sadly that Constitution has not been fully accepted by the BJP.”

He claimed that on one hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi states that the Constitution won’t be modified and however, he makes his individuals say that they want two-thirds majority to amend it.

“They (BJP) are against social justice and secularism enshrined in the Constitution,” he mentioned.


“This is just not mindset, this may create upheaval in nation if you wish to change the Constitution, Kharge mentioned, hitting out on the BJP.


That is why PM Modi says 400-plus seats for the NDA as they wish to amend the Constitution, Kharge claimed.

The BJP on Sunday dubbed Hegde’s remarks “personal opinion” and sought a clarification from him.
