Article 370

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at a gathering in Jammu on February 20th, talked about an upcoming film centered around Article 370. He expressed his optimism about the film’s potential to provide accurate information to the public.

Addressing the crowd at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu, PM Modi shared, “I recently learned that a movie related to Article 370 will soon hit the screens. I believe your enthusiasm will resonate across the nation.”

This visit marked PM Modi’s second trip to Jammu since the removal of Article 370 in August 2019. He acknowledged his limited knowledge about the film’s content but stressed its importance in educating people.

“I do not know what the film is all about but yesterday I heard on TV that a film is coming on Article 370. Good, it will be useful for people to get correct information,” the Prime Minister said.

Actress Yami Gautam, who stars in the film, expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for his remarks. She shared a video of his speech on Instagram, expressing hopes of meeting the audience’s expectations with the movie.

Titled “Article 370”, the film is produced by Aditya Dhar, known for his work on “Uri: The Surgical Strike”. Gautam plays the role of an intelligence agent in the movie, which focuses on countering terrorism in Kashmir after the nullification of Article 370. This constitutional change occurred on August 5, 2019, when the government revoked Article 370, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and divided it into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Regarding the legal aspect, the Supreme Court, on December 11, upheld the government’s decision to abolish Article 370. The court stated that Jammu & Kashmir doesn’t hold any internal sovereignty different from other states. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices Gavai and Surya Kant, affirmed, “All provisions of the Indian Constitution are applicable to Jammu & Kashmir… We find the presidential order to revoke Article 370 valid.” The court also supported the formation of Ladakh as a separate union territory from the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir.
